When I started planning our first trip, I wanted a room overlooking the harbor at DisneySea where we could also watch the show. Our youngest was still under two, so I liked the idea of letting her rest whenever she got tired while we could still enjoy the park from our room. That was how we started looking for a room at MiraCosta Hotel.

First, let's get to know the hotel's three sides

MiraCosta's rooms are divided into Tuscany Side, Venice Side and Porto Paradiso Side. The map helps make sense of the names: Tuscany is on the hotel entrance side, Venice faces the Palazzo Canals area, and Porto Paradiso faces the harbor inside the park.

We hoped to watch Believe! Sea of Dreams from our room, so Porto Paradiso was the side we were aiming for.

Once you've chosen Porto Paradiso, there's still the view to choose

The rooms on Porto Paradiso Side don't all have the same view. I kept coming across four names in my research: Partial View, Piazza View, Piazza Grand View and Harbor View. They describe what you can see from the room, so I needed to choose a view as well as a side of the hotel.

We knew what we wanted, so Superior Room Harbor View was our first choice, followed by Piazza Grand View and then Piazza View. We wanted to see the harbor and be able to watch the show without taking our youngest downstairs to sit in the cold, or having to keep holding her up if she couldn't see from our spot.

Balcony and Terrace rooms were tempting too, with that space to step outside. But they were well beyond the budget we'd set.

We only had to look out of the window to feel like we were still in DisneySea. You can also watch Believe! Sea of Dreams from a Harbor View room in the evening. Being able to stay in the room with our little one and still enjoy the show was the appeal for us from the start.

What you can see of the show depends on your room's position and floor, so the view won't be the same from every room. I'd also check the schedule before booking. There are dates when the show isn't running, and it can be canceled because of the weather.

So where are the Harbor View rooms?

Before booking, I used disneyfan.info to get a better idea of where the Harbor View rooms were. The site breaks it down by building, with illustrations showing the locations of rooms for three and four guests. If you'd like that level of detail, I've linked to the original below.

We've stayed in two different parts of the hotel. In 2024, we were on the fifth floor of the right wing, where I took the photos above. Unfortunately, a storm meant the park canceled the show that day. We'd have to try again on our next visit.

Back again, this time in the central building

When we came back in 2025, we got a room on the third floor of the central building. I'd booked the room type for up to four guests.

To be honest, that wasn't the category I'd originally set out to book. But when every second counts, there isn't much time to read all the details. At that point, I was just happy to get a room at all.

The central building faces straight out toward the harbor. From this room, though, I felt farther from the water than I had in the right-wing room the year before.

If being close to the show was my priority, I'd lean toward the right-wing room we had in 2024 over this one in the central building.

That's just how I felt about the two rooms we've stayed in. Other Harbor View rooms may give you a different view. The hotel chooses the room and floor, and you find out where you're staying at check-in.

Was Harbor View right for our family?

I think every family comes to the park with something a little different in mind.

For us, it mattered that we could bring the children back for a rest whenever they got tired. MiraCosta's park entrance for hotel guests made that much easier. I think getting back to another hotel nearby would have been more of an effort, especially with tired or sleepy children.

We also visited in February, when it was very cold. We wanted to see Believe! Sea of Dreams, but I wasn't sure the children would last outside until showtime, especially our one-year-old.

Watching from the room seemed like a way to make it easier for everyone: the children could rest, and we could still enjoy the show. That was a big reason we chose Harbor View.

But if your children are older, or your group plans to spend most of the day in the park enjoying the rides and only return to the room at night, I'd consider other room categories too. You might not have much time to make the most of the view from your room.

You can use MiraCosta's guest entrance with other room types too; you don't have to book Harbor View. If another room works for your family, it may cost a little less as well.

I'd start with your plans for the day. Will you want to come back for a rest? Would you rather spend the evening in your room or out in the park? Thinking about that might make the choice a little easier.
