About this story

Based on H2 Journey’s original posts and photographs on trip year 1 Benefits, passes and services describe our experience at the time of travel.
Original posts: 31 Mar 2024

On our first Tokyo Disneyland trip, with children around 80–110 cm tall, we used four types of passes. Here's how each one worked for us. All trip times are local Japan time.

A paid pass

Disney Premier Access (DPA)

DPA was a paid option we could buy through the app after entering the park. On this trip, we used it only to reserve places for the evening parade.

The DPA options we noted for our 2024 trip

  • Enchanted Tale of Beauty and the Beast
  • The Happy Ride with Baymax
  • Splash Mountain
  • Tokyo Disneyland Electrical Parade Dreamlights — evening parade
  • Disney Harmony in Color — daytime parade

At the time, we could buy an attraction pass and reserve a parade place at the same time. We got the front row in Zone B; I think the front row in Zone A had probably filled up already.

What I'd do differently next time is sort out the parade passes soon after entering, since places were limited. That day, we joined a ride queue before opening the app.

40th Anniversary Priority Pass

We could also book this pass for free through the app after entering the park. On our trip, we used it for Monsters, Inc., Buzz Lightyear and Star Tours. At the time, Star Tours had a minimum height requirement of 102 cm.

The 40th Anniversary Priority Pass options we noted in 2024

  • Monsters, Inc. Ride & Go Seek!
  • Buzz Lightyear’s Astro Blasters
  • Star Tours: The Adventures Continue
  • Space Mountain
  • Haunted Mansion
  • Pooh’s Hunny Hunt
  • Big Thunder Mountain

We managed to book this pass two or three times during the trip. At the time, we had to wait two hours after booking, or until our latest booked slot started—whichever came first—before booking again. These passes were limited too.

A pass we received after a ride breakdown

Multiple Experiences

We received this pass on two occasions: first when 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea broke down at DisneySea, and again the following day after a breakdown on Beauty and the Beast at Disneyland.

The screenshot we saved said to choose one attraction from the list. That particular pass expired on February 28, 2024, so it’s worth reading the details on the pass you’re given.

On Disneyland Day 1, we tried using it for Monsters, Inc., then went to ask about it at Buzz Lightyear. On Disneyland Day 2, we used the pass from the Beauty and the Beast breakdown for Baymax.

When I wrote the original post, I was still unsure whether “Multiple” meant it could be used more than once. This is just what happened on our visit; I wouldn't assume the pass can always be used again.

Early entry through our Disney hotel stays

Happy Entry

On this trip, our stays at the Disney Resort hotels—MiraCosta Hotel and Tokyo Disneyland Hotel—gave us entry 15 minutes before the park opened.

On our Disneyland morning, we passed through the gate at about 8:58 a.m., then hurried over to Beauty and the Beast with the stroller. It took about five minutes. The staff said the wait was around 70 minutes, which we were happy enough with, so we joined the queue.

Once we were in the queue, we had a moment to open the app and book DPA and 40th Anniversary Priority Pass.

One more thing from this trip: we all really enjoyed it’s a small world. The queue was short that day, the ride lasted quite a while, and there was plenty for the children to look at.
